Despite the serious injuries Alfred sustained in the first film due to an explosion, Andy Serkis is confirmed to reprise his role as Batman’s loyal and iconic butler, Alfred Pennyworth, in the highly anticipated sequel.
Serkis himself affirmed his return, noting that the filmmakers of “The Batman – Part II” are working to accommodate his busy schedule, which also includes a major commitment to “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.” Serkis is set to direct and potentially star in the latter, scheduled for a December release.
A long-time collaborator of director Matt Reeves, Andy Serkis expressed his profound excitement about rejoining the cast for “The Batman – Part II.” He highly praised Reeves’ creative approach, stating, “He’s an extraordinary writer and director, as you well know. He really wanted to take his time to make sure it’s truly excellent, and it’s an incredible script. It truly is. It’s so emotional and very powerful, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
The wait for production won’t be long, as filming for the sequel is slated to begin this upcoming June in London. This shift in location might offer a fresh visual take on Gotham, differing from the Liverpool backdrop seen in the previous installment. However, it’s widely expected that Reeves will maintain the signature grimy and atmospheric aesthetic of Batman’s city.
