Gearbox has revealed its strategic plans for Borderlands 4, offering a glimpse into the content and improvements players can anticipate in the coming months. Following the release of the first Vault Hunter DLC for C4SH, the developer is now shifting its focus to the remainder of spring, outlining a content roadmap for updates 1.6 through 1.8.
Players can expect a blend of technical enhancements and fresh content. A significant portion of these additions will be free, with the exception of the Bounty Pack 3, scheduled for release in late June.
Update 1.6, set to launch on April 30th, will be a smaller-scale patch primarily focused on bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements. C4SH will be monitored for further tuning, and world event and boss spawn rates are planned to be increased to provide more opportunities for farming high-quality loot. This update marks the first of three free content drops.
The subsequent free update, version 1.7, will introduce a new raid boss. While the boss’s name remains unrevealed, defeating it will yield rewards such as a new pearlescent weapon, four new legendary items, or five new class mods (one for each Vault Hunter). This update is slated for release at the end of May.
By the end of June, version 1.8 will be deployed, featuring both free and paid content. The free portion includes a new Takedown, described as “Borderlands 4’s most extreme endgame challenge.” This Takedown will present a multitude of enemies, an intermediate boss, and a final boss, with opportunities to acquire a new pearlescent weapon and nine new legendary items. Additionally, players can earn three weapon skins, a Vault Hunter skin usable by all characters, and an Echo-4 drone skin for completing accompanying challenges.
The Bounty Pack 3, launching concurrently with version 1.8, will add a new mission featuring three minibosses and a final boss, along with new legendary and pearlescent items. It also includes a Vault Card with 24 cosmetics and four usable items, a new vehicle, a new Vault Hunter skin, and an Echo-4 drone skin.
Looking beyond these immediate plans, further into 2026, players can anticipate shared character progression and cross-platform saves, in addition to at least two more Bounty Packs and other unannounced content.
