Capcom has weighed in on the ongoing discussion surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in game development. During a recent presentation to its shareholders, the Japanese company elaborated on its future plans for utilizing AI technology.
The company confirmed that human talent will remain central to developing its games. However, AI will be leveraged to streamline the development process and enhance productivity.
“Our company will not implement AI-generated assets into the content of our video games,” stated Capcom. “Instead, going forward, we plan to actively utilize this technology to improve the efficiency and productivity of game development. We are currently testing various methods of use across all our departments, including graphics, sound, and programming.”
Given the consistent critical acclaim, entertainment value, and best-selling status of Capcom’s games over the past five to ten years, this cautious and strategic approach to AI integration is perhaps unsurprising. The company seems keen on refining its proven development methods rather than making drastic changes to its core content creation process.
