Speculation is rife regarding Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal’s plans for the future of the Super Mario cinematic universe. While there have always been intriguing whispers about what might come next, the recent confirmation that Star Fox’s Fox McCloud will appear in an upcoming “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” with Glen Powell voicing the character, has opened the door to a multitude of possibilities. Many are now wondering if a “Smash Bros.”-style crossover film could be on the horizon.
However, stepping away from such a massive ensemble project for a moment, Charlie Day, who voiced Luigi in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” was asked if he would be interested in headlining a “Luigi’s Mansion” film. His response was a resounding ‘thrilled’ at the prospect.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Day elaborated on his thoughts:
“I would be thrilled to do a Luigi’s Mansion, just because it’s such a fun game. And not that you would make it like a children’s horror movie, but there could be a little bit more of sort of jump scares, which would be fun.”
He quickly clarified that this is by no means a confirmation that such a film is in the works, noting, “It seems like it would make a great movie, but I’m not… They don’t put me in charge of the movie studios for a reason. I have no idea.”
Nevertheless, he concluded with, “It would be a lot of pressure. But if they do it, I’m in,” offering considerable hope for fans that this exciting prospect could materialize.
Would you watch a Luigi’s Mansion movie?
