Tennis stars Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka are set for a highly anticipated clash in the Miami Open final this Saturday. This marks a significant milestone for Gauff, as it’s her first time reaching the final in Miami, while Sabalenka is aiming for her second consecutive title, having triumphed over Jessica Pegula last year.
Despite being the world No. 4 and a two-time Grand Slam winner, Gauff candidly shared that she sometimes experiences “imposter syndrome,” particularly before her recent semifinal match.
During a press conference in Miami, Gauff openly discussed her feelings: “Even when they announce my accomplishments as I walk onto the court or during warm-ups, it doesn’t always feel like it’s me. I find myself thinking, ‘Wow, you’ve actually had a good career.’ But internally, that’s not always my perception.”
She further elaborated on her self-doubt, especially concerning aspects of her game: “When you’re constantly working on things, particularly something like my serve, there are moments I feel I haven’t quite earned my place. However, the game of tennis is honest; the ball doesn’t mislead you. So, ultimately, I just have to trust in my own abilities,” stated the 20-year-old American sensation.
Following her reflections, Gauff demonstrated her prowess by overwhelmingly defeating Karolína Muchová with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory. Aryna Sabalenka then secured her spot opposite Gauff in the final by beating Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-3, a win that felt more conclusive than their previous “Russian roulette” style final at Indian Wells just weeks prior.
