Upon its initial launch, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach garnered significant critical acclaim from both reviewers and players. However, it hadn’t achieved overwhelming commercial success, with approximately 1.6 million PS5 units sold to date.
The game’s recent arrival on PC has significantly boosted its sales performance. New data suggests that an impressive 425,000 units were sold on PC within the first week alone.
While these figures remain unconfirmed by Sony or Kojima Productions, they push DS2’s total estimated sales to 2 million copies. The PC version now accounts for nearly a quarter of the game’s overall sales, despite being available on the platform for only a couple of weeks.
This strong performance on PC raises questions regarding Sony’s previously reported strategy to maintain single-player first-party titles as PlayStation exclusives, without PC editions. These sales figures, alongside broader market trends, indicate that Sony might be missing out on a substantial audience by restricting titles to a single platform.
