Disney continues its series of live-action remakes of its animated classics, driven by the occasional financial successes that reach billions. The latest to receive this treatment is Moana, and its very first trailer has just been unveiled.
Faithful to the original story, the live-action Moana film follows the titular heroine as she embarks on a journey across the ocean to save her island and her people. This quest is prompted by a menacing, lava-filled evil island that threatens to destroy her home and community. Maui, the iconic demigod, is of course a central figure, once again brought to life by Dwayne Johnson. While it remains uncertain if significant plot elements will be altered, we can anticipate some adjustments, similar to the approach taken with *Lilo & Stitch*, designed to keep audiences familiar with the original narrative engaged.
With the original film released a mere ten years ago and a sequel launched just two years ago, the rationale behind a Moana live-action remake might leave some puzzled. It now remains to be seen if Disney will justify this decision by achieving a resounding box office success.
