Ford has etched its name into the Nürburgring’s illustrious history once again. The track-exclusive Ford GT Mk IV has officially claimed its place as the third fastest vehicle to ever conquer the notorious Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The headline-grabbing lap time stands at an astonishing 6:15.977, masterfully achieved by factory driver Frédéric Vervisch. This monumental effort positions the GT Mk IV just behind the formidable Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo and the Volkswagen ID.R in the all-time rankings.
What truly elevates this achievement is the nature of the car itself. Unlike the two record-breakers that precede it—one a hybrid Le Mans prototype and the other an all-electric pioneer—the GT Mk IV operates purely on an internal combustion engine. This distinction makes it the fastest gasoline-powered car to ever lap the legendary German circuit, a testament to its raw engineering and mechanical prowess.
The vehicle is far from road-legal, designed exclusively for extreme track performance. This ultra-limited machine, a collaborative masterpiece with Multimatic, is restricted to just 67 units worldwide. Under its aggressive aerodynamic shell lies a heavily re-engineered twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine, unleashing over 800 horsepower. Further enhancing its track capabilities are an extended chassis, a bespoke race-tuned suspension system, and an array of aerodynamic elements meticulously crafted for ultimate downforce and speed.
