The Housemaid, an adaptation of the novel of the same name, proved to be a significant success for Lionsgate and Sydney Sweeney. The film dramatically exceeded expectations at the box office, grossing over ten times its production budget. Coupled with consistently high ratings and its compelling blend of thriller and horror elements, a sequel was all but guaranteed.
The follow-up, titled The Housemaid’s Secret, has already been announced and is based on the second book in Freida McFadden’s popular series. Exciting new casting news reveals that critically acclaimed and award-winning actress Kirsten Dunst, known for her roles in films like ‘Bring It On,’ ‘Spider-Man,’ and ‘Marie Antoinette,’ will join Sydney Sweeney in the upcoming movie.
Erin Westerman, a Lionsgate executive, expressed her enthusiasm for the new addition: “It’s a privilege to bring the next chapter of The Housemaid to the screen with Kirsten Dunst. She is an icon whose career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the always magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite what it seems.”
With Rebecca Sonnenshine returning to pen the screenplay and Paul Feig set to direct, the essential elements for another box office hit appear to be firmly in place.
