The global excitement for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2010s quickly led to a collaboration between Lego and Disney, resulting in the creation of a rather large S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier set. The original 2015 model, with just under 3,000 pieces, was priced as a collector’s item rather than a child’s toy. This set has been hard to find for some time, likely because Lego and Disney have been developing an updated edition.
A new S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier set has now been unveiled. This technically very similar model is designed primarily as a display piece rather than a play set. It features more subdued colors, intricate details at the expense of play functions, and comes with a stand for easier exhibition.
Compared to its predecessor, the new set is approximately £60 cheaper (inflation-adjusted), includes about 100 more pieces, and is slightly wider but a bit shorter. Specifically, the new set contains 3,057 pieces, measures 30 cm (11.8 inches) high and 68 cm (26.8 inches) long, and is priced at £329.99 / €369.99.
This new set is based on the Helicarrier from the 2012 The Avengers movie. It boasts a detailed interior, a Quinjet that ‘hovers,’ a fully rotating stand, and six minifigures: Captain America, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Phil Coulson, and, curiously, the Winter Soldier.
The set is available for pre-order now and will officially launch on June 1st.
