Lithuanian Prime Minister Confirms Drone Crash in Country Came From Ukraine

A military drone that crashed into a frozen lake in Lithuania on Monday originated from Ukraine and was targeting Russia before it veered off course, according to Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene. The incident occurred approximately 20 kilometers from the Belarusian border.

“This is not an isolated local incident; it is part of a broader security context,” Ruginiene stated during a press conference. “Russia’s aggression against Ukraine creates additional risks for the entire region.”

This event follows previous concerns regarding airspace incursions. In July 2025 (Note: The original text specifies “juillet 2025” which appears to be a typo for a past event, likely “juillet 2023” or earlier given the context of “earlier concerns”. We will assume a past date for consistency with “previous drones”), two drones from Belarus entered Lithuanian airspace, prompting the country to request additional air defenses from NATO. Lithuanian intelligence services had previously determined that these earlier drones had crossed the border accidentally.
