Organizers of the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, set to debut in Madrid, have released new images of the circuit under construction, marking a significant milestone: the completion of the ‘Monumental’ corner. This turn is poised to become the longest banked corner across the entire Formula 1 calendar.
The 12th turn of the urban circuit, a 550-meter semi-circle, has received its initial layer of asphalt out of a planned three. It boasts an extreme 24% banking and reaches a maximum height of 10 meters. Pilots are anticipated to spend approximately six seconds navigating this severe incline, which promises to be a spectacular highlight for fans and an exceptionally demanding section for drivers.
MADRING, the new circuit’s managing body, described the construction of this particular corner as a “monumental technical challenge.” The complex operation required 1,800 cubic meters of asphalt mix and the synchronized efforts of two finishers, a process highlighted as “an uncommon operation that ensured the continuity and uniformity of the surface on a track of this nature.”
The Spanish Grand Prix is scheduled to run from September 11-13, 2026, and is confirmed to be on the F1 calendar until 2035. Its recently unveiled trophy humorously garnered comparisons to a churro from many observers.
