Netflix to Adapt Adult Superhero Detective Comic Powers into Animated Series

Netflix is developing an animated series based on the popular adult superhero detective comic ‘Powers,’ created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. The project is a collaboration with Dark Horse Comics, the current publisher of the series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keith Goldberg and Chris Tongue from Dark Horse Entertainment will serve as executive producers. Creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming are also actively involved: Bendis is penning the pilot episode, while Oeming is contributing to the visual development. As of now, no director, cast members, or release date have been announced for the series.

Blending elements of both superhero and police procedural genres, ‘Powers’ centers on two detectives who investigate crimes specifically involving individuals with superhuman abilities. The comic series first launched in the early 2000s and has previously been adapted into a live-action series for the PlayStation Network.

Given the critical and commercial success of other adult animated superhero series like ‘Invincible’ and ‘The Boys Presents: Diabolical,’ this animated format appears to be an ideal fit for ‘Powers,’ tapping into a strong demand for mature superhero content.
