Despite not being a live-service game, a point emphasized by developers Landfall Games and Aggro Crab Games shortly after its June launch, Peak has consistently received updates. The newest addition is the ‘Play It Your Way’ update, bringing a host of new features to players.
As the name suggests, this update significantly enhances player control over the gameplay experience. Custom Runs allow players and their friends to fine-tune individual difficulty settings. This includes adjusting the prevalence of specific hazards, increasing or decreasing the drops of certain item types, and much more. However, a crucial note for achievement hunters: achievements are disabled during custom runs, preventing them from being used for easy unlocks.
Mini-Courses offer a more condensed gameplay session. Instead of traversing the entire mountain, players can now opt to tackle just a single terrain type. This new mode potentially paves the way for smaller, focused maps in future updates, should Landfall and Aggro Crab choose to explore that direction.
Campfires have also received significant improvements, now featuring automatic saves, allowing players to pause their journey at any time without losing progress. They also persist indefinitely, with fog and hunger accumulation no longer impacting the world state around them. Furthermore, a ‘zombiephobia accessibility’ option has been included, transforming the charging zombies into enormous mushrooms. Perhaps a ‘mycophobia mode’ will be introduced next to counter these new, less intimidating foes!
