Pope Leo XIV has advocated for a universal ban on military airstrikes, emphasizing their indiscriminate nature and incompatibility with modern warfare.
Speaking from the Vatican, the Pontiff asserted that no one should fear destruction ‘from the sky,’ adding that aerial bombings ought to have been outlawed following the devastating conflicts of the 20th century.
‘Yet, these practices persist… it is not progress, but a regression,’ he stated. These remarks are widely interpreted as a response to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The Pope, the first American to lead the Catholic Church, has previously issued numerous calls for a ceasefire, recently describing the war as a ‘scandal for the entire human family.’
