It seems the day we might have to pay more for our gaming consoles is drawing near. Recent speculation indicates that the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal are all poised for a price increase.
According to unconfirmed reports, the main consoles – the PS5 and PS5 Pro – are expected to see their prices rise by €100. The PlayStation Portal handheld device could also experience a €30 increase. These reports suggest that retailers have already been notified of the potential price adjustments, which could come into effect as soon as next month, coinciding with the turn of the financial year. While no specific mention was made of the PS5 Slim Digital Edition, it’s widely anticipated that it would undergo a similar price hike to the other main consoles.
This would mark the third price increase for the PlayStation 5 during its lifecycle. We’ve also seen Xbox implement price adjustments since the launch of its Series X/S consoles. These increases are reportedly driven by ongoing global RAM shortages, which continue to severely impact hardware manufacturers worldwide. It’s crucial to remember that this information remains unofficial and should be treated as speculation. However, given the current economic climate and industry trends, it wouldn’t be surprising if these reports were soon formalized.
