s&box, Garry’s Mod Successor, Sets Release Date for April 28

Nearly two decades after the original Garry’s Mod captivated players, Facepunch Studio is preparing for the launch of its anticipated follow-up, s&box. Heralded as the spiritual successor to Garry’s Mod, s&box transitions from the charming but dated visuals of the Source engine to the sleek, modern capabilities of Source 2, boasting its own distinctive visual style. Crucially, it retains much of its predecessor’s beloved sandbox appeal, empowering players to create virtually anything they envision, including fully-fledged games that can then be published as standalone projects on Steam.

The release date for s&box quietly emerged via an update to its Steam page. While no major announcement was made, it is now confirmed that s&box will officially arrive on April 28. The only remaining detail is the game’s price upon its launch later this month.

In the past, creator Garry Newman indicated that the pricing would be comparable to Garry’s Mod, suggesting that the game will likely be affordable. Many years have passed since community-driven hits like Prop Hunt, Trouble in Terrorist Town, and Melon Bomber took the internet by storm, and the big question remains whether s&box can inspire a similar wave of viral sensations.
