The beloved Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek, which aired from 2015 to 2020 over six seasons, captivated audiences with its uniquely unconventional premise, memorable characters, and abundant humor.
Its success was undoubtedly bolstered by a stellar cast, including Eugene Levy (known as Jim’s dad in American Pie), Daniel Levy, Chris Elliott, Annie Murphy, and the incomparable Catherine O’Hara. For some time, discussions about a potential Schitt’s Creek follow-up had been circulating. However, during a recent interview on CBS Sunday Morning, co-creator Dan Levy definitively addressed the possibility of future installments, stating:
“No, not now. Not now. No. No way. You can’t.”
The primary reason for this decision is the passing of Catherine O’Hara, who portrayed Levy’s mother, Moira Rose, earlier this year. While loose ideas for a sequel had been explored, all such plans have now been shelved.
Levy added, “Yes, I was thinking about it. It’s hard, it’s hard to be back. I didn’t think I would have such an emotional reaction.”
He further elaborated on Catherine’s profound significance to him, noting the irony that her iconic portrayal of Moira Rose generated countless memorable internet memes, despite her own minimal online presence.
“Listen, for someone who wasn’t on the Internet, she knew how to make memes.”
Given these circumstances, is it the correct decision to conclude Schitt’s Creek following the loss of such a pivotal cast member, or should the series eventually find a way to continue?
