A Netflix-funded live-action adaptation of the iconic Gundam franchise is steadily taking shape, assembling an impressive roster of talent. Already confirmed for lead roles are Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo, with Michael Mando also attached to the project. The latest addition to the cast is Shioli Kutsuna, widely recognized for her portrayal of Yukio in the Deadpool films (Deadpool 2 and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine).
Kutsuna’s specific role in the Gundam movie has not yet been disclosed. The film is being written and directed by Jim Mickle. While the cast continues to grow, key details such as the official start date for filming and, more critically, the release date, remain unannounced.
With a growing list of actors now committed to the project, production could potentially begin within the current year. However, a large-scale science fiction film like Gundam will inherently demand a significant amount of post-production work. Therefore, it is generally anticipated that audiences shouldn’t expect the film to premiere before late 2027 at the earliest.
