Massive Entertainment is currently developing a third main installment for The Division series, alongside ongoing support and evolution for The Division 2. While these plans are exciting, it has been seven years since a new core entry in the franchise was released, making The Division Resurgence a particularly compelling project.
Now available on iOS and Android devices, The Division Resurgence brings a mobile adaptation of the beloved series. This title isn’t a main installment; instead, its narrative bridges the events of the first and second games. To understand Ubisoft’s aspirations for this mobile title within this unique timeline, we recently spoke with Fabrice Navrez, Executive Producer at Ubisoft.
Navrez explained, “The way I see it, it’s about how you evolve The Division itself. The Division is now 10 years old, The Division 2 is still going strong, bringing a lot of content, and so for us, it’s truly about staying within that lineage and bringing a new way to play The Division, while remaining very true to what The Division is.”
He continued, “So, in that sense, for me, I see it more as an extension, ensuring that people who are familiar with The Division, who have played or still play, can engage with it almost anywhere. But I also believe, especially with a mobile game, that it’s a fresh way to reach new players who might never have heard of it or haven’t had the chance to play because they don’t own a console, for example. So, it’s more of an extension.”
We then inquired with Navrez about how The Division Resurgence would connect with the main series, particularly regarding potential collaborations with existing games.
Navrez clarified, “Well, first, I think there’s already a connection in the sense that The Division Resurgence is canon. So, it’s fully consistent with The Division universe. The storyline… the prologue is essentially set just before The Division 1, where you play as a first-wave agent trying to save the day in New York as everything collapses. The main part of the game is set between The Division 1 and The Division 2. So, there’s a very strong link between them.”
He added, “The game will be updated very frequently. We have a very ambitious plan for players to ensure they remain entertained by what we do. And definitely, there will be opportunities to find synergies or common ground with what’s happening in the other The Division experiences.”
