Tides of Tomorrow and Road 96 Developer Digixart Has “Many Ethical Problems With AI”

As artificial intelligence increasingly integrates into modern society, its role in creative endeavors has become a significant topic of discussion. With the upcoming release of Tides of Tomorrow, the new narrative adventure game from Digixart, the studio behind the acclaimed Road 96, we inquired about their approach to AI in game production.

In a recent interview with Game Director Adrien Poncet, Digixart elaborated on their careful incorporation of AI and their perspective on the ethical challenges it presents.

Poncet stated: “We have many ethical problems with AI. Our games do not contain any generative AI in the final product. We use a bit of AI as a production tool, not for art (never!) but mostly for programming assistance or to automate time-consuming tasks like data analysis. We have also used text-to-speech technology to have NPCs speak our dialogue lines while we iterate on the story, before replacing it with real voice actors!”

This stance is undoubtedly commendable within the industry. Players will soon be able to experience Tides of Tomorrow, as the game is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on April 22nd.
