Top Gun 3 Confirmed: Tom Cruise to Return as Maverick

The gap between the first two Top Gun films stretched nearly 40 years (36 years to be precise). Consequently, despite the immense success of the recent Top Gun: Maverick, speculation has persisted about the timeline for a potential third installment, even as it seemed likely to materialize. Based on recent developments, the wait is expected to be significantly shorter this time around.

During Paramount’s presentation at CinemaCon, it was officially announced that Top Gun 3 is in development. Key members of the creative team and stars from Top Gun: Maverick are slated to return for the new film.

As reported by Variety, Tom Cruise will reprise his iconic role as Maverick. Jerry Bruckheimer is also confirmed to return as producer for the project. Furthermore, we can anticipate a screenplay from Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote the script for the most recent movie.

Beyond these confirmed details, specifics remain scarce. No director has been officially named yet, and it’s unclear whether the entire talented ensemble cast will return to reprise their respective roles. There’s also no indication of a release date or window. However, the hope is for a relatively swift production, given that Tom Cruise is not getting any younger.
