Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach, entrusting him with the crucial task of saving the team from Premier League relegation. He takes over from Igor Tudor, who was dismissed after a disastrous run of seven matches, which saw five defeats and only one inconsequential victory. De Zerbi had been without a club since February, following his resignation from Olympique Marseille after a heavy 5-0 loss to PSG in Ligue 1.
The Italian manager expressed his enthusiasm, stating he was “delighted to join this fantastic football club, one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world.” He also affirmed his desire to implement “a style of football that excites and inspires our supporters.”
“I am here because I believe in this ambition, and I have signed a long-term contract to give everything to achieve it. Our short-term priority is to climb the Premier League table, which will be the complete focus until the final whistle of the last game of the season,” he declared.
De Zerbi has signed a five-year contract with no release clause, meaning he will remain at the club even in the event of relegation. Currently sitting 17th, just above the drop zone with a mere one-point lead over West Ham, Tottenham has only seven matches remaining to secure their Premier League status.
