Upcoming Video Games: April 2026 Releases

The year has kicked off memorably, treating us to a wave of major and captivating game launches. April 2026 continues this exciting trend, showing no signs of slowing down and shaping up to be potentially the best month of the year so far. Indeed, it’s set to be a fantastic period for gamers, so let’s dive straight into the highly anticipated titles releasing this month.

Darwin’s Paradox (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2) – April 2

Kicking things off, ZDT Studio presents Darwin’s Paradox, an action-adventure game featuring a charming octopus protagonist. This challenging, stealth-focused 2D side-scroller tasks players with guiding a small marine creature to the safety of the ocean, all while evading industrial hazards and dangerous predators. Expect inventive platforming and suspenseful gameplay in this promising indie title.

The Occultist (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 8

Next up is a distinct change of pace with Daloar’s The Occultist, a first-person narrative thriller. Players assume the role of a paranormal investigator traveling to a desolate British island, driven by the quest to uncover the truth behind his father’s disappearance. This island, however, holds far more than meets the eye – or rather, far more than one could supernaturally imagine – promising a dark, twisted, and unsettling adventure.

Samson (PC) – April 8

Liquid Swords is set to debut their first project, Samson, this April. This dark and impactful story follows a man desperately trying to raise funds to pay dangerous individuals holding his sister hostage. His desperate mission unleashes chaos across an urban landscape, where Samson’s only path forward is to confront and overcome every obstacle in his way.

Replaced (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series) – April 14

Having explored some exciting indie and AA adventures, we now turn our attention to Replaced. From Sad Cat Studios, Replaced is a 2.5D action platformer that tells the story of an AI trapped within a human body, struggling to escape a catastrophic and twisted city where lives are traded like currency. Set in an alternative 1980s America, prepare for neon-lit alleyways, industrial wastelands, and a brooding cyberpunk atmosphere.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2) – April 16

Enjoying April’s strong showing of non-AAA titles so far? Good news, it’s Fumi Games’ turn to steal the spotlight with Mouse: P.I. For Hire, next on our list. This stunning, black-and-white, rubber hose animation-style action shooter is nearly here, promising bombastic combat, an old-school soundtrack, and a perplexing case to crack. It’s shaping up to be another must-play indie this April.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 16

Returning to the AA development scene, Big Bad Wolf steps into the limelight to unveil Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. This dark, atmospheric adventure game follows a man stranded on a deep-sea mining station in the Pacific abyss, attempting to unravel the mysteries of the deep. With a strong Lovecraftian theme, players will confront ancient horrors and grapple with the blurry lines between reality and illusion.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (Switch, Switch 2) – April 16

This April’s run of primarily indie and AA titles temporarily pauses as Nintendo makes its appearance, showcasing the highly anticipated Switch 1 and 2 exclusive, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. While Pokémon Pokopia may have just launched, Nintendo clearly believes we need even more life simulation in our gaming lives, and that’s precisely what this Mii-centric adventure delivers.

Pragmata (PC, PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2) – April 17

Capcom has already had an exceptional start to the year with Resident Evil Requiem and hopes to replicate at least a fraction of that success with the upcoming Pragmata. Heralded as the Japanese titan’s latest new IP, this sci-fi action game sees a human hero and an android companion striving for survival and progress on a lunar research station, where all manner of robotic monsters lie in wait.

Tides of Tomorrow (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 22

It’s time to briefly return to the AA segment as Digixart, the creators of Road 96, step up to introduce Tides of Tomorrow. This narrative-rich adventure game places a strong emphasis on community, where your choices not only affect your own experience but can also impact others. Set in a unique ‘plasticpunk’ world, your goal will be to become a Tidewalker, striving for survival in a planet consumed by floods.

Masters of Albion (PC) – April 22

Love him or hate him, Peter Molyneux remains one of the most recognizable names in video game development. This April, the former Lionhead boss and creator of Fable returns with what he considers his magnum opus: Masters of Albion. This god game simulation aims to grant players complete divine control over a world where they can build, destroy, and manipulate as they see fit.

Kiln (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 23

It’s only been about six months since Double Fine’s last appearance with the colorful adventure game Keeper, and already, the Psychonauts developer is back with another title. This, however, is a very different beast: Kiln is a ‘pottery party brawler.’ In this quirky project, players control various types of pottery and duke it out across different modes with friends or against rival teams. It sounds as uniquely Double Fine as a game can get, doesn’t it?

Aphelion (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 28

Still haven’t had your fill of action-adventure games this month? Perfect, because now it’s Don’t Nod’s turn. The French developer is ready to introduce Aphelion to the world. The story follows a pair of astronauts on a critical mission to explore and monitor a distant ninth planet at the edge of the solar system, hoping this icy world can serve as a refuge for humanity escaping a dying Earth.

Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series) – April 28

The saga of Hatred is nearing its climax as Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion arrives at the end of April. This highly anticipated add-on will see humanity finally confront Mephisto, with the very fate of Sanctuary hanging in the balance. Featuring the official arrival of the Warlock and Paladin classes, this expansion introduces a new region to explore, countless new activities, revamped features, and, of course, tons of loot to hunt.

Saros (PS5) – April 30

After dazzling the world a few years ago with the excellent Returnal, the Finnish team at Housemarque returns this April with the eagerly awaited Saros. Also a sci-fi action-adventure game, players will step into the shoes of a protagonist, voiced by Rahul Kohli, and delve headfirst into a world engulfed by the shadow of an eclipse. The mission: uncover the haunting secrets of the land and confront its hostile inhabitants.

Invincible VS (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 30

Finally, for fighting game enthusiasts, we have another tag-battler. Quarter Up has collaborated with Invincible creator Robert Kirkman to develop Invincible VS, a grueling and impactful 2D fighting game. It pits teams of heroes and villains against each other in iconic locations, all woven into a story specifically crafted for this project.

Wow, that’s quite a lineup! It goes without saying that April 2026 offers something for every gamer. Keep an eye on the horizon, as we’ll be back in a few weeks to explore what May 2026 has in store for video game fans.
