Zelensky Welcomes Middle East De-escalation, Signals Readiness for Russia Ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky lauded the de-escalation and ceasefire between the United States and Iran on Wednesday, stating that Kyiv is prepared to reciprocate in kind if Moscow halts its attacks against Ukraine. In a post on X, Zelensky emphasized that a ceasefire in the Middle East could foster conditions for broader diplomatic agreements globally.

Ukraine has consistently urged Russia to agree to a full ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, which has now lasted four years. Such a cessation of hostilities would pave the way for crucial peace negotiations. Furthermore, Ukraine has actively contributed to regional security by deploying over 200 specialists to the Middle East to counter Iranian drone attacks, with Zelensky affirming that Ukrainian military teams will continue to bolster regional security capabilities.

Reiterating his stance on social media, Zelensky stated: “Ukraine has always called for a ceasefire in the war waged by Russia here in Europe against our state and our people. We fully support the ceasefire in the Middle East and the Gulf, as it demonstrably opens the path for diplomatic efforts. Ukraine states once more to Russia: we are ready to respond in kind if the Russians cease their strikes. It is clear to everyone that a ceasefire can create the essential prerequisites for sustainable agreements.”
