007 First Light: A Promising James Bond Game from Hitman Developers

The return of James Bond to the gaming world is here with 007 First Light, developed by IO Interactive, the studio behind the acclaimed Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy. The developers’ previous work seemed to foreshadow their ambition to create a James Bond game, and now that opportunity has arrived.

However, Bond demands excellent gunplay, a compelling narrative, and of course, high-speed chases. These elements have historically been weaker points in the Hitman series. So, has IO Interactive perhaps taken on too much? I attended a preview event in London to find out. I spent 3.5 hours playing through three chapters of 007 First Light, and I’m here to share my impressions on the missions, stealth and shooting gameplay, and even a glimpse of the vehicles. Rest assured, I will refrain from revealing any story spoilers.

The preview covered the following aspects:

  • Intro (00:00)
  • Two Gameplay Pillars (01:35)
  • Charm and Fists (03:40)
  • Firearms (05:29)
  • Gadgets (06:47)
  • Vehicles (08:29)
  • Presentation (09:36)
