Amanda Seyfried to Voice Cinderella in Netflix’s Animated Film ‘Steps’

Netflix has significantly ramped up its animation efforts over the years, not only adding iconic projects to its library but also creating a multitude of original animated features. The year 2026 is set to continue this expansion, with one of the highly anticipated films being ‘Steps’.

‘Steps’ offers a fresh take on the classic Cinderella story, cleverly twisting the plot to cast the traditionally ‘wicked’ stepsisters in a more heroic light. Essentially, this film explores what happens when the fate of the kingdom rests on the shoulders of one of the stepsisters after a magical mishap involving a wand. This predicament ultimately necessitates the help of the very princess on whom the original tale is based: the renowned Cinderella.

In exciting news, Netflix has just announced who will be lending her voice to bring Cinderella to life in ‘Steps’. Following her acclaimed performance in ‘The Housemaid’, Amanda Seyfried has been chosen for the role. She will join Ali Wong and Stephanie Hsu, who are cast as the stepsisters Lilith and Margot, respectively.

Directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, known for their work on ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’, ‘Steps’ is scheduled for release in 2026. Netflix has also shared the official synopsis for the film:

“Think you know Cinderella’s ‘evil’ stepsisters? Think again! When the misunderstood Lilith (Ali Wong) is blamed for derailing the royal ball with a stolen magic wand, she accidentally transforms her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu) into a frog and leaves the kingdom in the hands of a wicked, prince-obsessed girl. Lilith must now team up with Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried)… and a surprisingly dreamy troll… to save the kingdom, mend the fractured fairy tale, and prove that even so-called villains deserve a chance at a happy ending.”
