Elder Scrolls Fans Fed Up with Waiting, Create Their Own Game with All of Morrowind’s Quirks

With The Elder Scrolls VI still years away at best, many fans are growing weary of replaying Skyrim or digging for rumors about Bethesda’s next fantasy RPG. The team at NerveLabs has taken matters into their own hands, aiming to emulate the unique chaos of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with their new game, “The Lantern of the Laughless Saint.”

This developer/publisher has garnered significant attention on social media, and you can view their gameplay explanations on the Steam page for “The Lantern of the Laughless Saint.” Much like Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, “The Lantern of the Laughless Saint” is positioning itself as a “Scrolls-like,” differentiating itself from the many games adopting a “Soulslike” approach.

The game promises features that echo Morrowind’s distinctive style: spells that can launch players thousands of feet into the air only to let them fall to their demise, bizarre enemy designs blending wild beasts, and NPCs reminiscent of paralysis demons. It also includes mechanics like pickpocketing, lockpicking, the freedom to kill any character you choose, and cooperative multiplayer. While this might sound ambitious, the strong demand for such an experience suggests NerveLabs might just pull it off. “The Lantern of the Laughless Saint” is slated for release later this year.
