Voice acting in video games is a unique art form, not always appreciated or understood, even within the acting profession. However, when an actor finds their niche, connects with a story and their character, even working in isolation, that passion can lead to unforgettable roles. Jane Perry has brought to life characters like Selune in “Returnal,” Lune in “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” and Alyssa Ashcroft in “Resident Evil Requiem.”
We had the opportunity to discuss these women, their stories, and the professionals who created them with actresses Kirsty Rider and Jane Perry during our coverage of Comicon Napoli 26. An interview with subtitles is available below.
Beyond discussing their work on “Expedition 33” and “Returnal,” where they originated and embodied the characters of Lune and Selene respectively, Jane Perry shared insights into her role as the new voice of Alyssa Ashcroft in “Resident Evil Requiem.” She explained how she approached this character, considering the established legacy of the franchise.
“Before I stepped into Alyssa Ashcroft’s shoes, or even Diana Burnwood – as there were two actresses before me who played Diana Burnwood – if I dwelled on that too much, I would have panicked completely.”
Diana Burnwood is another significant role in Jane Perry’s video game career, being a pivotal character in the “Hitman” series. “But specifically with Resident Evil, I was aware of how much of a phenomenon it is, and how extraordinary its fans are. So, I was vaguely aware that Alyssa already had a huge following, and I think I just wanted to do justice to her and her story as best as I could; that was my main intention: just to do a good job.”
Don’t miss the rest of the interview, which you can find above, where Jane Perry also reveals how she developed her BAFTA-winning performance as Selene in “Returnal.”
