LeBron James Treasrues Playing with His Son as They Eye Another NBA First

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to host the Houston Rockets in the playoffs, a series that is anticipated to feature LeBron and Bronny James playing together. This marks another historic first for the NBA: the first time a father and son will compete in the NBA playoffs.

Although Bronny James made his Lakers debut earlier last season, toward the end of 2024, recent performances have seen him gain more trust from coach JJ Reddick. The 21-year-old, who previously played more regularly in the G-League, has been featured for 13 or more minutes in seven of the Lakers’ last ten games, averaging 19 minutes in the past four. Reddick has affirmed his intention to utilize all healthy players, specifically noting Bronny’s significant defensive improvements.

LeBron James, 41, expressed immense pride in his son, stating, “Every moment that we have an opportunity to share the court, I don’t take it for granted.” He spoke (via AP/NBA.com) about his son’s growth, particularly in light of early criticism regarding “nepotism.”

“Me, being on the floor with him post-season, regular season, training camp, practices, it’s the best thing that’s happened to me in my career, above anything that I’ve accomplished,” LeBron continued. “The fact that he’s put himself in a position to have his number called for a post-season game is pretty remarkable and pretty cool, considering the circumstances he’s been through the last couple of years. He’s earned it. He deserves it. He’ll be ready.”

The Los Angeles Lakers’ first playoff game against the Houston Rockets is scheduled for Sunday, April 19th, at 02:30 CEST (01:30 BST).
