Serena Williams Suffers Knee Injury at Wimbledon, Potential Withdrawal from Doubles with Venus

Serena Williams’ participation in Wimbledon may be cut short due to a knee injury sustained after her three-set match against Maya Joint on Tuesday. This marked her first singles match since 2022. Although Williams lost the singles match, she was scheduled to play in the women’s doubles alongside her sister, Venus Williams.

According to Tom Kershaw of The Times, her availability for tomorrow’s doubles match is now uncertain. Williams declined to give a post-match interview and left without assistance, though crutches were reportedly seen being brought to her locker room. Her agent stated that she injured her knee at the end of the first set, leading to her medical exemption from media obligations by Wimbledon and WTA medical teams.

Williams is reportedly “doing everything she can to be ready” for her doubles match, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, July 2nd, against Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio.
