The Gap Between ‘X-Men ’97’ Seasons 1 and 2 Won’t Happen Again

Fans have endured a significant wait for the second season of “X-Men ’97,” set to premiere on Disney+ next week. It’s been over two years since the first season aired, and while the exact reasons haven’t been officially disclosed, this delay was likely due to the absence of a concrete production timeline at the series’ inception. Marvel needed to gauge audience interest and confirm demand for multiple seasons. The dismissal of former showrunner Beau DeMayo, following allegations of sexual misconduct, may also have been a contributing factor.

However, with the successful debut and overwhelming fan reception of Season 1, a robust production plan is now in place. According to producer Larry Houston, this lengthy inter-season gap will not be repeated.

In an interview with The Direct, Houston stated, “Fortunately, the production issues won’t happen again. There was a huge gap between Season 1 and Season 2. They learned from it, so for Seasons 3 and 4, it won’t happen again… It was a one-off.”

While the release date for Season 3 remains unconfirmed, a third batch of episodes has already been greenlit alongside Season 2. This suggests a potential release in 2027, aligning with hints from Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming at Marvel Studios.
