President Donald Trump has announced an agreement for a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. EST (2100 GMT).
The declaration was made through a series of posts on Truth Social, where Trump stated he had engaged in “excellent conversations” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. While his initial announcement did not specify the exact start date, a U.S. official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the ceasefire would begin on Thursday.
“Both sides want to see PEACE, and I believe it will happen, quickly!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump further indicated that he has tasked Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine with working alongside both governments to achieve a lasting resolution. In a subsequent post, he revealed his intention to invite Netanyahu and Aoun to the White House for “meaningful talks.”
This development occurs amidst ongoing tension in the wider region. Reports of strikes in Lebanon continued as recently as Thursday, with visible smoke rising above Nabatieh in the south. The effectiveness and subsequent framework of this 10-day pause remain to be seen. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
