Earlier this week, rumors of an online leak of the new animated film Avatar: The Last Airbender circulated across Twitter/X and other social media platforms. These rumors have now been confirmed as legitimate, with creators involved in the film voicing their reactions to the entire movie, Aang: The Last Airbender, appearing online months ahead of its planned streaming debut on Paramount+.
We will refrain from sharing details of the leak or any spoilers. However, after reviewing fan forums and conducting our own research, it appears the complete film is accessible, and its plot is already sparking debate among fans. Many of the artists who contributed to the film have spoken out, expressing their dismay.
“We worked on the aang movie for years hoping we’d be able to celebrate all of our hard work on the big screen… only to see people leak the movie unceremoniously and have our plans go around on twitter like candy,” wrote animator jul on Twitter/X. “I hate seeing people use Paramount’s horrible decision to pull the movie from theaters as justification for leaking it. I totally understand people not wanting to pay/support paramount+, but pirating the movie after it came out would have at least been better than this. It’s incredibly disrespectful to all the hard work the artists put in.”
“I worked on this film as a lead. I get that we all have opinions on what happened and what you decide to do is your personal choice. But it breaks my heart to see the way some fans treat the hard-working artists,” added animation director Tessa Bright.
This is an unfortunate situation for both the creators and the fans. While the leak appears to have been entirely accidental, the finished film is now circulating online for those who seek it out. It’s frustrating to know that we won’t experience this film in a theatrical setting, but at the same time, it’s a significant blow to the creators to see their work unceremoniously cast out onto the internet.
