Following Jannik Sinner’s triumph over Carlos Alcaraz at the Monte Carlo Masters, many ATP players are splitting their focus for the clay-court season. Some are heading to Spain for the Barcelona Open (Conde de Godó), while others are competing in Germany at the BMW Open in Munich. Both are ATP 500 events, serving as preludes to the Mutua Madrid Open next week.
Among the top 10 ranked players, Alcaraz (World No. 2), De Miñaur (World No. 7), and Musetti (World No. 9) have opted for Barcelona. In contrast, Alexander Zverev (World No. 3), Ben Shelton (World No. 6), and Alexander Bublik (World No. 11) are scheduled to play in Munich. Jannik Sinner is taking a rest this week, and Novak Djokovic will not return until Madrid next week.
Here are the eight seeded players for the Munich Open, with their world rankings in parentheses. Please note that the seeding order may not strictly reflect the current ranking as seeds were determined on April 6th:
- Alexander Zverev (3)
- Ben Shelton (6)
- Alexander Bublik (11)
- Flavio Cobolli (16)
- Francisco Cerúndolo (19)
- Luciano Darderi (21)
- Arthur Rinderknech (26)
- Tallon Griekspoor (32)
On Monday, Rinderknech already advanced by defeating his first opponent, Alex Michelsen. Ben Shelton is set to face fellow American Emilio Nava. On Tuesday, Zverev will begin his campaign against Kecmanovic, and Darderi will play Zhang. Joao Fonseca will also be in action in Munich, competing against Alejandro Tabilo.
