The year is shaping up to be quite promising for fans of DC’s villain Clayface, as the character is set to appear in one of the early major DC Universe films, specifically the third after Superman and Supergirl. Created by Mike Flanagan, the horror film Clayface is slated for an autumn release and is expected to deliver a frightful body horror experience to those brave enough to watch it in cinemas. However, this won’t be the only exciting Clayface story this year.
DC has announced Clayface: Celebrity Dirt, a six-part story that follows Basil Karlo as he escapes Arkham Towers and attempts to reclaim his place in the spotlight. His plan takes an ironic turn when he discovers someone has stolen his identity, a particularly cruel twist for the villainous Clayface.
Described as a “black horror comic” set within the Batman universe, the story is penned by horror expert Jude Ellison S. Doyle, with art by Fran Galan, colors by Patricio Delpeche, and lettering by Tom Napolitano.
The comic’s synopsis elaborates: “When Basil Karlo escapes Arkham, he’s ready to reclaim the Hollywood crown he lost years ago. But the world he returns to is stranger than ever: a new creeping plague is turning ordinary citizens into warped, clay-like reflections of his own nightmares, and a charismatic doppelgänger has taken over Basil’s life, becoming a bigger movie star than the real Basil ever was. As a disturbing pattern begins to emerge around this new celebrity, Basil must confront the darkest parts of his past and track down the source of these twin mysteries. His investigation will lead him deep into the history of the Clayface family and face-to-face with one of its most dangerously unstable members.”
Clayface: Celebrity Dirt will release its first issue on July 8th. You can view the story’s cover below.
