Expedition 33 Makes Video Game History by Sweeping the Top Five Game of the Year Awards
The five most significant and prestigious Game of the Year awards are generally considered to be the Ultimate Game of the Year from the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, the DICE Awards, the Game Developers Choice Awards, and the BAFTA Games Awards (with Gamereactor’s award presumably ranking in sixth place).
Only once before has a game managed to win all of these accolades – that was Baldur’s Gate III, which was, once again, an exceptionally good role-playing game. But… as you’ve undoubtedly figured out by now from our headline, we’re going to tell you next that this improbable feat has happened again.
Yesterday, the BAFTA Games Awards took place – and the winner turned out to be the same game that had previously scooped up the Ultimate Game of the Year from the Golden Joystick Awards, The Game Awards, the DICE Awards, and the Game Developers Choice Awards for Best Game of 2025. We are, of course, talking about the extraordinarily well-crafted, innovative, stunningly beautiful, thought-provoking, and highly entertaining game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which also won our Game of the Year award (and those of practically everyone else).
This means that two games have now made history with this achievement, both stemming from smaller developers and publishers. While one title from Rockstar is likely in a very strong position to sweep most awards this year, the competition is fierce, and it remains to be seen if Grand Theft Auto VI will ultimately live up to expectations.
