It has recently come to light that the actress originally cast as Ginny Weasley is departing the project. Gracie Cochrane, who had already filmed the first season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, will no longer be portraying the youngest Weasley sibling in future seasons of the live-action television adaptation.
Given HBO’s intention to film subsequent seasons at a pace that will allow the young actors to age appropriately throughout this extensive and ambitious endeavor to adapt the seven Harry Potter books, an open casting call has now been initiated. The aim is to find a new actress to take on the role of Ginny Weasley.
The casting call is seeking individuals between the ages of 10 and 12 who are residents of the United Kingdom. In line with HBO’s commitment to inclusivity, applications are welcomed “regardless of ethnicity, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected characteristic, unless otherwise specified.” However, considering that most of the already cast members of the Weasley family are Caucasian with distinct red hair, it is reasonable to assume that HBO is looking for a similar profile for the new Ginny Weasley.
