Hazelight, a relatively young developer founded in 2014, has established itself as an acclaimed Swedish studio known for its cooperative-focused titles. To date, they have released the highly successful games A Way Out, It Takes Two, and Split Fiction. Given their popularity and reach, there’s been ongoing speculation about whether Hazelight might venture into creating established series with sequels for any of their games, something they haven’t yet pursued.
If Hazelight were to explore another chapter of Split Fiction’s story, the question arises: would the lead actors be interested in returning? In a recent interview, we posed this question to Kaja Chan, the talent behind Mio. Her response was overwhelmingly positive, and she even touched upon the possibility of reprising her role in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation directed by John M. Chu, with Sydney Sweeney set to star.
“Absolutely. I would love that. I mean, there’s all this buzz now about a potential Split Fiction production in Hollywood. Obviously, I’d love that… What I propose to you, John M. Chu, is that there is a level within the Split Fiction movie, which is the video game. I think Elsie and I should reprise our roles as Mio and Zoe in this alternate Side Story where, you know, whoever they have, they have… Sydney Sweeney and whoever they have playing the other, they go into the Side Story and suddenly they’re not them. They’re us.”
Chan further elaborated on the personal significance Mio holds for her and why she would jump at the chance to embody the character again.
“But, but, but yes, I would love to reprise the role. I’ve become incredibly attached to Mio and, and whenever I look at any material of this character, whether it pops up on a social media feed or I watch some of the clips back recently to put some material together, I do get really fond and sentimental. And I honestly feel like I’m looking at this person that I fell in love with, in a way, and have become very protective of. And yes, I would absolutely love to step back into her shoes and hopefully it’s not the last time I play this character.”
