Despite rising PC component prices, particularly for RAM, gamers are prioritizing storage capacity over RAM size when building or upgrading their systems. According to reports from WCCFTech, citing Digital Foundry, players are more willing to accept lower RAM capacities than opt for SSDs with less than 1TB of storage.
While RAM demonstrably impacts gaming and other demanding workloads, storage drives contribute significantly beyond just faster loading times. Consequently, faster storage solutions are a top priority for gamers, who generally prefer rapid NVMe SSDs over traditional hard drives.
Grace Su, General Manager of Lexar for the EU, observed that while lower capacity RAM kits saw reasonable demand, smaller storage drives only met a “fraction” of expected interest. She noted a significant reluctance among users to purchase 256GB or 512GB SSDs, with most consumers actively avoiding storage options below 1TB.
Lexar believes there’s a clear rationale behind this trend. For gamers, it’s often more practical to add an extra RAM module later than to compromise on SSD capacity, which would leave insufficient space for their games and other data.
