Roberto Bautista Agut to Retire in Late 2026

Spanish tennis star Roberto Bautista Agut, who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 9 in 2019, has announced his decision to conclude his professional tennis career at the end of 2026.

Bautista Agut, who recently celebrated his 38th birthday, has amassed 12 ATP titles, achieving victories on every surface. His impressive career includes an ATP 500 title in Dubai, a Masters 1000 final appearance, and reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2019 and the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in the same year.

A key member of the 2019 Davis Cup-winning Spanish team, Bautista Agut’s participation in the tournament was marked by a poignant moment when he temporarily withdrew to attend to his father, who was gravely ill. He returned to the court days later, defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime, ultimately contributing to Spain’s championship victory. At the time, he stated, “My father would have scolded me if I had stayed home.” He married the following week.

His most recent title came at the 2024 European Open in Antwerp, where he defeated Jiri Lehecka. Throughout his career, Bautista Agut spent 27 weeks in the top 10, secured 22 wins against top-10 opponents (including three victories over Novak Djokovic), and boasts a win-loss record of 435-297 from over 700 matches on the tour.

“I have been living a dream for many years. I have given everything I had in every training session and every match. Now, I feel the time has come to start saying goodbye, to enjoy each tournament in a different way, and to finish this phase of my life with gratitude for my beloved tennis,” Bautista Agut posted.
