Manchester City has officially confirmed the acquisition of 23-year-old midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a colossal £116 million (approximately €134.4 million). This landmark transfer shatters Manchester City’s previous transfer record and positions it among the most expensive signings in Premier League history.
By securing Anderson’s services for the next five years, Manchester City has made its largest ever investment in a player, surpassing the £100 million record previously held by Jack Grealish. Within the Premier League’s all-time most expensive transfers, only two recent signings by Liverpool rank higher: Florian Wirtz, brought in from Bayer Leverkusen for £116.5 million, and Alexander Isak, signed from Newcastle for £125 million.
Furthermore, Anderson’s transfer fee exceeds the £115 million Real Madrid paid for Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in 2023, officially making him the most expensive English player ever.
Nottingham Forest, who finished 16th in the Premier League, reportedly rejected two prior offers from Manchester City, driving up the valuation of their midfielder. Anderson has been a standout performer for Forest, starting in 37 league matches and featuring in every Premier League game. He contributed four goals and four assists, while also ranking among the league’s top five players for tackles and passes completed.
