Rewilders: The Lost Spring Aims for the Same Emotional Impact as Endling

The Spanish studio Herobeat Studios has garnered recognition for its commitment to environmental advocacy and its narrative games that delve into humanity’s impact on wildlife and the planet. This theme continues with their latest ambitious project, Rewilders: The Lost Spring. Unlike the more adventure-focused Endling, this new game embraces a more action-oriented Metroidvania style, centered around revitalizing a barren world.

Javier Ramello, co-founder and CEO of Herobeat, shared insights into the studio’s direction during the New Game Plus event at London Games Fest. He explained the team’s desire to offer players a distinct experience:

“Well, we wanted all of our players to experience a different experience. It’s a completely different genre. We’re working on a Metroidvania game here with a lot of exploration. It’s an open world, it’s not a side-scroller like Endling. So, yes, it has been a challenge to create something new, something fresh, while still delivering the same type of emotional message, talking about the impact of the subject. So, yes, it’s been a great adventure so far.”

Ramello further elaborated on the core environmental message within Rewilders:

“In this game, you are rewilding. You are restoring different ecosystems. You are bringing biodiversity back to a world that has been destroyed by human activity, and at the same time, you are bringing life back to it. You are bringing back small creatures, the little guys of this world, and they help you out. They become, let’s say, your equipment, and thanks to them, you will be able to defeat the enemies of nature.”

Rewilders: The Lost Spring is currently in development for PC. For those eager to try it out, a playtest is available on Steam.
