Rockstar Hackers Release Data, But No Juicy Grand Theft Auto VI Revelations Available
Months before the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, it appears Rockstar has been dangerously hacked once again. The hacker group ShinyHunters breached Rockstar and threatened to release the data they had gathered if the developer did not pay $200,000. Rockstar did not pay, and ShinyHunters released the data.
According to Kotaku, there seems to be no reason for Rockstar not to pay. The data includes numerous documents, but none of them relate to Grand Theft Auto VI’s code or any other information about the most anticipated game of all time. Instead, we have confirmation of details we already knew.
Grand Theft Auto Online generates hundreds of millions of dollars annually, with Shark Cards accounting for most of that revenue. Red Dead Online brings in only a fraction of that amount, so it’s no surprise that this online mode is virtually abandoned. PC has the lowest number of weekly GTA Online players compared to Xbox and PlayStation, and a small percentage of users generate the most money in GTA Online.
It’s interesting to see this confirmation, but if you were worried that Rockstar would have to delay GTA VI again due to this hack, it seems that won’t be the case. This doesn’t mean the game will definitely be released on November 19th, but if it is postponed once more, we highly doubt the leak of old, predictable financial data will be the primary cause.
