Tragically, a small aircraft met with a fatal accident yesterday, Sunday, June 28th, in the vicinity of Tomblaine in northeastern France. The crash resulted in the loss of eleven lives, comprising the pilot and ten skydivers.
Reports indicate that the aircraft was operated by a skydiving school. It was carrying five individuals undergoing training and five instructors when it plummeted to the ground shortly after departing from Nancy-Essey Airport.
The devastating impact occurred in close proximity to residential areas in Tomblaine. It has also been noted that some relatives of the victims were present and tragically witnessed the horrifying event.
According to a local journalist, the plane “crashed approximately 300 meters from the runway” at 10:00 AM BST / 11:00 AM CEST. While the precise cause of the crash remains unconfirmed, an eyewitness described the aircraft’s engine ceasing its noise abruptly, as if it had stopped entirely. No visible signs of fire, explosion, or other immediate issues were apparent. It is currently unclear whether the recent heatwave may have contributed to the incident.
