Anthropic Halts Public Release of Claude Mythos AI Due to Cyberattack Risk
Anthropic has decided against publicly releasing its latest artificial intelligence model, Claude Mythos. This decision stems from the AI's demonstrated, unprecedented ability to uncover software vulnerabilities that could be exploited for large-scale cyberattacks.
The San Francisco-based company revealed that Claude Mythos has already identified thousands of weaknesses in widely used applications, some of which are decades old and had previously gone undetected by developers. Concerned about the potential misuse of these capabilities, Anthropic is instead limiting access to cybersecurity experts and selected partners.
As part of an initiative dubbed 'Glasswing,' the company is collaborating with major technology and security firms, including Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto Networks, as well as the Linux Foundation. The goal is to use the model defensively: helping to identify and patch vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them.
