Apple Designates Additional Devices as Vintage or Obsolete
As technology progresses, older products are eventually phased out and superseded by newer models. Apple categorizes its devices into 'vintage' and 'obsolete' lists, which determine their eligibility for service and repair. A product classified as 'vintage' may still be serviced at Apple Stores and authorized service providers, contingent on the availability of parts. Conversely, 'obsolete' products are no longer eligible for any form of service or repair.
According to Apple's criteria, a device attains 'vintage' status if it was last distributed for sale more than five years ago. An item is designated 'obsolete' if its last distribution date was over seven years ago.
Apple has recently expanded these classifications, adding three more products to its lists.
Specifically, the 13-inch MacBook Air (2017) has now been moved to the vintage category. Concurrently, the iPad Mini 4 (2015) and the Apple TV HD (32 GB, 2015) have both been officially declared obsolete.
