Captain America Would Lead a Revolution Against Donald Trump, Declares Legendary Comic Book Artist

Steve Englehart, a veteran comic book writer who has penned stories for many of our favorite superheroes since the 1970s, has revealed how he envisions Captain America confronting contemporary political issues. Englehart, known for his work on Marvel Comics titles such as the X-Men, Avengers, and Doctor Strange, as well as co-creating Shang-Chi, also famously reimagined Captain America and Bucky's storylines.

During his career, Englehart penned a narrative where Captain America, disillusioned with the United States, became Nomad. He suggests that if he were to write Captain America today, the character would embark on a similar path of dissent. In an interview with Celsius 232, Englehart elaborated on his modern interpretation of the iconic hero.

"My Captain America today would lead a revolution against Donald Trump, but I'm not writing that comic," Englehart stated. He contrasted the creative freedom he experienced early in his career with the current landscape. "Back when I was doing it and addressing topics related to the President of the United States, it was just a comic book company, so we were just making comic books. Now, it's a multimedia corporation owned by Disney or Warner, depending on who you talk to. Consequently, everything has to be validated on multiple levels, whereas back then, I could do whatever I wanted, and it was much simpler. But if I were to do it today, Captain America would lead the revolution, but that's not an option for me at this stage."

Englehart also touched upon the evolution of comic book writing, noting that when he first started, creators had more latitude to alter characters because there was less emphasis on strict continuity.
