Carlos Alcaraz's Return Will Have to Wait: He Will Also Miss the Canada Open in August
As the Wimbledon semifinals unfold, fans of Carlos Alcaraz are eagerly awaiting news on when the Spanish star will return to competition. After a wrist injury sidelined him since April, causing him to miss both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, it now appears Alcaraz will also be unavailable for the next major tournament after Wimbledon: the Canada Open, scheduled from August 1st to 11th.
The tournament, officially known as the National Bank Open, has released its men's singles entry list, and Alcaraz is notably absent. The list is headlined by Jannik Sinner and also features prominent players such as Alexander Zverev, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Novak Djokovic. Essentially, the entire top 10, with the exception of Alcaraz.
Spanish fans will need to follow the progress of five other Spanish players: Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (ranked 22nd), Rafa Jódar (25th), Jaume Munar (43rd), Martín Landaluce (61st), and Pablo Carreño Busta (72nd).
Alcaraz's official withdrawal from the tournament, for which the draw will take place on July 31st, confirms his absence. He also missed this tournament last year, meaning he will not have any ranking points to defend. The crucial question now is whether he will be able to compete in the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati (August 11th-23rd), where he secured the title last year. If he misses this tournament as well, it's highly probable he will drop to third in the ATP rankings. However, Zverev could potentially overtake him sooner if he wins his semifinal match against Arthur Fery tomorrow.
