Dragon's Dogma 2 to Feature a New 'Hard Mode'
Capcom is gearing up to invite players back into the world of Dragon's Dogma 2 in the coming months with a significant expansion titled 'Dark Arisen.' This expansion is not only bringing new content to the RPG but also a Nintendo Switch 2 debut. The 'Dark Arisen' expansion promises a fresh storyline, new dungeons, and enhancements over the base game, offering approximately 25 hours of additional gameplay. Its full release is scheduled for October 9th, marking a major new addition from Capcom.
As this release date draws nearer, Capcom is continuing to unveil more details about Dragon's Dogma 2. A recent Q&A session with the development team, published on the game's Steam page, highlighted a variety of planned features.
Amidst this Q&A, a significant and previously unannounced feature briefly surfaced: Dragon's Dogma 2 will soon offer a 'Hard Mode.' Director Kento Kinoshita confirmed that this mode is designed to "provide a rewarding challenge for veteran players whose stats have reached, or are close to reaching, their maximum."
The existence of Hard Mode was confirmed when the development team was queried about the difficulty of the 'Dark Arisen' content. Kinoshita elaborated, stating, "Even on Normal mode, the difficulty gradually increases as players progress through the expansion's content, with enemy encounters becoming progressively tougher over time. As players reach the mid and late stages of the content, we've balanced the game so that even those who have already reached their stat cap can still enjoy an interesting challenge."
Producer Naoto Oyama also touched on this, explaining that the starting recommended level for the Lost Rites area is 20, and for the Forsaken Domain, it's 40. However, he clarified that these reference levels "only apply at the beginning of each piece of content," as "difficulty will gradually increase as players progress, making both experiences more demanding." Oyama even mentioned that players are "free to venture in even below the recommended level" by speaking with Brant at the Vernworth tavern, though these levels are provided to make each zone more accessible.
Regarding the Hard Mode itself, Oyama offered a hint about when more information will be available: "Stay tuned for future updates regarding the details of Hard Mode and its release date."
